About this tool

Test your PS5, PS4, Xbox, Switch Pro or PC controller online: every button, both sticks, triggers, stick drift and vibration. Controller Tester is part of WebToolNest's collection of free web & device. It works instantly in your browser with no account and no installation.

How to test your controller

  1. Connect the controller with a USB cable or Bluetooth.
  2. Press any button. For privacy, browsers hide game controllers from websites until you press a button.
  3. Move both sticks around their full range — the trail should draw a full, round circle. Press every button and both triggers; each lights up, and triggers show how far they are pressed (0–100%).
  4. Click Test vibration to run both rumble motors (works in Chrome and Edge).

Which controllers work?

PlayStation 5 DualSense and PS4 DualShock 4, Xbox One and Series X|S controllers, Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, and most PC gamepads. Button names change automatically to match your controller (✕ ○ □ △ for PlayStation, A B X Y for Xbox). Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all support controllers; vibration from websites works best in Chrome and Edge.

Reading the stick values

Each stick reports X and Y from −1 to +1. At rest both should be close to 0. The offset is the distance from the centre: under 0.05 is perfect, 0.05–0.12 is a small offset that games' deadzones normally hide, and above about 0.12 means the stick is drifting. Use the 5-second drift test for a definite answer.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Controller Tester free to use?

Yes. Controller Tester on WebToolNest is completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limits.
