About this tool
Check if your mouse double-clicks by itself. Test left, right, middle and side buttons plus the scroll wheel, with a click-by-click log. Mouse Double Click Test is part of WebToolNest's collection of free web & device. It works instantly in your browser with no account and no installation.
Why does my mouse double-click by itself?
Every mouse button has a small metal spring inside a switch. After millions of clicks the spring wears or oxidises and “bounces”, so one press is sent to the computer as two clicks a few milliseconds apart. Files open when you meant to select them, and dragging drops things halfway.
How this test works
Click the box slowly and normally — one click at a time — with each button. Humans can't click the same button twice in under about 80 milliseconds, so when two presses arrive closer together than that, the test flags a double-click fault for that button. The table shows clicks, faults and the shortest gap for left, right, middle and both side buttons, and the log lists every click. Faults often only appear now and then, so click 50–100 times for a reliable result. Scroll the wheel inside the box to check that it registers up and down.
Fixes
- Check Windows isn't the cause: Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Mouse → Additional mouse settings, and make sure “ClickLock” is off. Test the mouse on another computer if you can.
- If the fault follows the mouse, it is the switch. Under warranty? Most brands replace it. Otherwise the switch can be replaced (it needs soldering), or the mouse replaced — optical-switch mice don't suffer from this problem.
