About this tool
Convert GPS tracks and waypoints between GPX and KML/KMZ for Google Earth, Google My Maps, Garmin, Strava and hiking apps — without uploading your routes. GPX to KML Converter is part of WebToolNest's collection of free everyday utilities. It works instantly in your browser with no account and no installation.
GPX vs KML — what's the difference?
- GPX is the standard format of GPS devices and fitness apps: Garmin, Strava, Komoot, AllTrails, Wikiloc, OsmAnd and most hiking and cycling apps. It stores waypoints, tracks (where you went, with times) and routes (where you plan to go).
- KML (and zipped KMZ) is Google's format for Google Earth and Google My Maps. It also stores styling such as line colour and width.
This converter reads either format and writes the other: waypoints become placemarks, and tracks and routes become lines (and back again). Elevation is kept, and timestamps are kept when converting KML tracks that include them. It also shows the total length of your tracks in kilometres and miles.
Private by design
GPS files show exactly where you live, work and travel. Most online converters upload them to a server; this one converts the file inside your browser, so your location data never leaves your device.
