How to use the Lenovo Keyboard Test
- Choose your keyboard layout
- Press every key — tested keys turn green
- Keys that stay grey after pressing need fixing or replacing
About this tool
Test every key on your Lenovo keyboard online with the ThinkPad and IdeaPad layout — Fn on the left, PgUp and PgDn beside the arrows. Lenovo Keyboard Test is part of WebToolNest's collection of free web & device. It works instantly in your browser with no account and no installation.
The Lenovo layout
Lenovo keyboards are a little different from other laptops, so this page draws them accurately: the Fn key is at the far bottom-left (before Ctrl), PrtSc sits between the right Alt and Ctrl, and PgUp / PgDn are above the left and right arrows, as on ThinkPads. Tick Numeric keypad for IdeaPad and Legion models that have one.
What the colours mean
- Green — the key sent a signal to your computer. It works.
- Blue — the key is being held down right now. A key that stays blue after you let go is stuck.
- Red outline — shown when you click “Highlight untested keys”: keys you have not pressed yet.
- Dashed — Fn and Touch ID are handled inside the laptop and are never visible to any website. Test Fn through its shortcuts instead (Fn + brightness or volume).
Function keys not working on your Lenovo laptop?
- Press Fn + Esc to toggle FnLock — the small light on the Esc key shows when it is on.
- Prefer Ctrl in the corner? ThinkPad BIOS setup has a Fn and Ctrl Key Swap option, and Lenovo Vantage has the same setting under Input.
A key does not light up — what next?
- Rule out software first. Restart, then test again. Check that Filter Keys / Sticky Keys (Windows Settings → Accessibility → Keyboard) are off.
- Plug in a USB keyboard and test it here. If the external keyboard works, the laptop keyboard hardware is at fault, not Windows.
- Clean it. Turn the laptop off, tilt it, and blow compressed air under the dead key in short bursts. Crumbs and dust cause most “dead” or “sticky” keys.
- Reinstall the driver. Device Manager → Keyboards → right-click the keyboard → Uninstall device, then restart. Windows reinstalls it automatically.
- If one key or one whole row is still dead, the keyboard (or its ribbon cable) needs replacing. On most laptops the keyboard is a separate, inexpensive part.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Lenovo Keyboard Test free to use?
Yes. Lenovo Keyboard Test on WebToolNest is completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limits.
Is my data stored?
No. Most checks run entirely in your browser. Tools that must contact a network service — such as the speed test or IP lookup — only send what is needed to get the result, and we never store it.
Does Lenovo Keyboard Test work on mobile phones?
Yes. WebToolNest works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows, Mac and Linux. There is nothing to install.
